HUGE EVENTS HIGHLIGHT REMAINDER OF SPIRIT SPEEDWAY SCHEDULE

Bridgeport, NJ – As the final few months of the 2018 racing season approach, every event remaining on the Spirit Speedway calendar should be circled for micro sprint drivers.  Although only 7 events remain for the competitors and fans at Spirit, everyone of them carry a ton of importance and significance.  Four Poker Series races (including the Skyscraper & Bill Thomas Memorial), the final night of points, and two ‘qualifiers’ for the two marquee events.

First on the agenda is Hand #2 of the ’18 Poker Series on Sunday, August 26.  Tommy Kunsman and Nick Skias were victorious back in July in the first hand of the series as they each took an ‘ACE’ home with them.  The Ace Overhead Door Wingless 600s will race for $1,000 to win while the Ace Overhead Door Winged 270s will compete for a minimum of $500 to win on Sunday.  Joining the micro sprints will be the Championship Energy Action Track Slingshots and the XCEL Modifieds.  Heat race action will start at 6:30pm.

The following week will see the 2018 Spirit Speedway track champions crowned on Friday, Aug 31.  Currently, Mike Rutherford (600s) and Nick Skias (270s) lead the way over a strong contingent of Friday night regulars.  Rutherford has a healthy lead of second place Kyle Spence while Skias holds a slim 6-point margin over Alex Swift, who held the top spot heading into last Friday’s competition.  Joining the micros will be the Four-Cylinders, Slingshots, and Mini Late Models.

After sitting idle for a couple of weeks, Spirit swings back into action for a Friday/Sunday weekend on September 21 & 23.  On Friday, both micro sprint divisions will be vying for a guaranteed spot in the second annual Skyscraper spectacular.  Then on Sunday, the teams will head back to Spirit on Sunday for the Poker Series (make up from May) hand #3 event.  The 600s, 270s, Slingshots, and XCEL mods will be all take part of the Sunday program.

When the calendar flips to October is when things really get intense in south Jersey.  October 5-7 will see the Skyscraper make its way back to the 1/4 mile in fine fashion.  The three-day extravaganza drew rave reviews from everyone in attendance last year and should only get bigger and better in 2018.  The wingless 600s will battle for $4,000 first-place prize while paying $400 for last with every position seeing an increase.  The winged 270s will fight for a $3,000 winner’s share while also seeing $400 to start with every position seeing a purse increase.  The Skyscraper wills serve as Hand #4 for the Poker Series.  Registration, format, times, prices can all be found under ‘Rules & Forms’ atwww.spiritspeedway.com.

Rounding out the season on the 1/4 mile will be the 8th Annual Bill Thomas Memorial Weekend on October 26 & 27.  Friday evening will serve as a ‘test & tune’ race for Saturday.  The winners of Friday’s 270 and 600 events will lock into Saturday’s 30 & 40-lap events.   Saturday’s races will complete the 5th and final Hand of the ’18 Poker Series.  Joining the micro sprints that weekend will be the Slingshots, XCEL modifieds, and 4 & 8 cylinders.

In Summary, even though the season is winding down at Spirit Speedway, the action is actually just heating up!  Be sure to mark your calendars for all these events as they are certainly ones that any race fan or driver wouldn’t want to miss.  Questions regarding any of these events should be directed to general manager Danny Serrano.  He can be reached at 609-433-4487.
