SPIRIT ADDS U6SA SKYSCRAPER SHOWDOWN TO OCT. 5 FRIDAY NIGHT PROGRAM
SPIRIT ADDS U6SA SKYSCRAPER SHOWDOWN TO OCT. 5 FRIDAY NIGHT PROGRAMWinner Of Event Locks Into Skyscraper $4,000 To Win SpectacleBridgeport, NJ – The bar has now been raised for the 600cc Micro Sprint drivers just a bit higher for the 2nd annual Skyscraper Weekend. After announcing last week that the companion 270 Micro Sprints will be conducting their own ‘Winners Classic’ on Friday evening at the South Jersey 1/4 mile facility, now the wingless daredevils will have their own race on Friday with a little extra incentive on the line as well.Earlier this season, Champion Oil and 600cc Performance put together a colossal series featuring all the tracks and drivers that run within the U6SA rules. Currently over 300 drivers have competed in the 8 race tracks that follow U6SA. Tracks such as Spirit Speedway, Action Track, Hamlin, Linda’s, Clyde Martin, Path Valley, Trail-Way, and Greenwood Valley have all partaken in the first-year series. The series started on April 1 and concludes on October 31…114 events have been recorded at this point with several still remaining before the Skyscraper. A driver’s top 20 finishes at any of the 8 tracks get calculated into the championship.Kyle Spence impressively leads the way over 300 other drivers currently. Veteran Mike Rutherford, young and exciting Damon Paul, versatile Tommy Kunsman, and young gun Nash Ely complete the top 5 in the standings. Other drivers making their presence known are Aaron Bollinger, Colin White, Austin Quick, Mike Thompson, Heath Hehnly, Kenny Miller, Hayden Miller, Ryan Groff, Zane Rudisill, Rob Pajauis, Andrew Layser, PJ Williams, Garrett Bard, Chad Sandt, and Bradley Brown.WHO’S IN?It’s simple. The top 24 in the Champion Oil U6SA point standings headed into Friday night.“I’ve been constantly thinking of a few ways to include this unique series into our Friday program during Skyscraper Weekend, and I feel that this a great start. I’ve been helping Dave Ely keep track of the points all year long from the start, so my heart’s into this big time,” admitted general manager Danny Serrano. “Last year we had close to 50 teams join us for practice on Friday. Now with the ‘Showdown’, it gives some of the guys a chance to race for some extra incentive.”Spirit Speedway drivers who will currently be in the field would be Spence, Paul, Rutherford, and Williams. Drivers like Tyler Lindsay, Mike Linderman, and Jerman Godshall are most likely to be included in this event as well pending on who registers for the 20-lap Showdown. “I think it would be pretty awesome to see some of the hot dogs from the other tracks take a shot at the Showdown and Skyscraper this year that didn’t last year. Talented drivers such as Aaron Bollinger, Rob Pajauis, Chad Sandt, Bradley Brown, Jarid Kunkle, Ryan Groff, and Heath Hehnly, and plenty more” Serrano expressed.HOW DOES IT WORK?Any of the eligible drivers in attendance can sign up and enter the car next weekend at Spirit Speedway or right up to the Drivers’ Meeting on Friday night October 5. The 20-lap event will be lined up by a mix of practice time and pill draw. The 600s will get three rounds of practice with the final two rounds going ‘on the clock’ to try and lock into Sunday’s Skyscraper. The 10 fastest cars of the night will redraw for positions 1-10 while the remaining drivers entered in the ‘Showdown’ will start heads up based on time throughout the evening.“Obviously the top 24 won’t all be in attendance however, as some of these great drivers are ‘winged’ guys, which means the next driver in line of the point standings will eligible to compete in the event. Realistically, I think 75% of the top 24 will be in the house on Friday night. We’ll start taking the 25th place guy and so on until we have 24 cars that want to be part of the Showdown,” Serrano explained.WHAT’S AT STAKE?
The winner of the first-ever Skyscraper Showdown will be locked into the 7th starting position for Sunday’s Skyscraper 40-lap $4,000 to win event. *Should the winner of the event happen to be the driver that set quick time (where they’d be guaranteed a starting spot 1st thru 6th) earlier in the evening then they’d receive the $400 rather than the 7th starting position and still retain their better pill draw. There will be a full purse for the 600 field paying thru last position.INFORMATIONFor more information on the Skyscraper Weekend, drivers and fans can visit the track’s website at www.spiritspeedway.com or follow the track on Facebook for all the latest information regarding the event or call the speedway at 856-467-4408
