Colin White has struggled in his past visits to Spirit Speedway – he just couldn’t catch a breaK or have any luck go his way but Friday night‘s action might have just been what the young driver needed. After a solid qualifying run, White drew the pole for the 20 lap Hyper Racing EVO Injection 600 feature. White grabbed the lead on the start with Bobby Butler and Joe Dopke dicing it up behind the leader
White led through the half way mark when a caution flag brought the field together for a double file restart. White lined up alongside of Stoney Point, NY driver Damon Paul for the restart. The two drivers raced side by side and wheel to wheel for the lead for a complete lap before Paul emerged with the advantage.
Paul was headed for the checkered when a last lap caution realigned the field one more time. Paul led the field to the single file restart but White was ready. In just one quarter of a mile, Paul and White exchanged the lead twice with Paul leading the way to the checkered flag for the win. Mike Butler finished third after running with the leaders for twenty laps. Luke Thomas led young Buddy Schweibinz to the finish line to the complete the top five. PJ Williams finished sixth after starting back in nineteenth followed by Aiden Borden, Geordon Marrero, 2019 Champion, Matt Smith and Mike Butler.
After a nasty wreck in feature action at the Championship Energy Action Track on Wednesday, Paul and his dad had their work cut out for them but work they did – and their efforts resulted in a feature win.
Nick Skias led from the green to the checkered in the 270 Micro feature, driving Chuck Palmucci’s No. 16P.
Skias is no stranger to Spirit where he tied for the track title with Alex Swift in 2018.
Skias was able to pull away from the field as Ken Andreas, Barry Pollard and Tommy Kunsman raced for position behind the leader. Skias took the crossed flags followed by Kunsman, Nick Walton in the Huesser No. 20, Alex Swift and Pollard.
Swift was able to close in on Kunsman during the second half of the race but no one had anything for Skias to raced to the victory. Kunsman finished second, followed by Swift, Nick Walton and Pollard. Kyle Weiss finished sixth with Billy Gray, Tyler Grau, Bennet Skelton and Deana Bulter completing the top ten finish.
2019 Slingshot Poker Champion, Amanda Angstadt captured her first Spirit Speedway win on opening night in All Star Slingshot action.
Angstadt, who started fourth, took the lead from Michael Beckett on the fourth lap and then proceeded to hold off Ryan Davey for the win. Davey collected seven feature wins at Spirit last season.
Beckett finished third followed by Dave Morrell and Tomas Mowery for top five finishes.
The 600s, 270s and Slingshots return to action at Spirit Auto Center Speedway next Friday night with an 8pm start time.
