FINAL CARD DEALT IN SPIRIT AUTO CENTER SPEEDWAY POKER SERIES
The final card in the Spirit Auto Center Speedway Poker Series was dealt on Sunday night and series champions were named.
Tommy Kunsman, Jr. picked up his third win in a row in the wingless 600 Micro Sprint competition to pick up the Poker Series championship with three Aces. Jacob Hendershot was the winner of the 270cc Micro Sprint feature event but it was second place finisher, Pat Bealer who won the Poker Series title with a full house (3 – Aces and a pair of Kings). Cody Kline picked up his first win of the season in the JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA Poker Series over Chris Kurtz whose four wins gave him four of kind to caputre the Poker Series Championship for the Slingshots. Kory Inglin picked up his third win in the Xcel 600 Modified action to end the evening.
Kunsman took the lead at the start of the 600 Micro feature as he lead Jay Hartman and Jermain Godshall during the opening laps. Travis Hill, who started seventh, moved into the top five by lap five. Steven Bracall passed Hartman and Godshall to take second on lap 7. Hill followed, moving into third on lap 8, and then passing Bracall for second on lap 12.
Kunsman was setting a fast pace as he caught slower cars by lap 15. Kunsman held a half straightaway lead over Hill and began to maneuver through lapped traffic. With 18 laps complete, Hill closed in and challenged Kunsman for the lead as Kunsman was unable to clear the slower traffic. A late race caution realigned the field and gave Kunsman a clear track for the restart. Kunsman raced to the checkered to record his third Poker Series win in a row. Hill finished second followed by Hartman. Alex Bright came on strong to finish fourth in Greg Steven’s No. 20 with Bracall completing the top five at the finish.
Hendershot led the opening lap from his sixth starting position. Pat Bealer spun in turn four bringing out the caution after one lap was scored, putting Bealer at the rear of the field for the restart. Kunsman overtook Hendershot for the lead on lap two with Hendershot regaining the position on the third lap. Tyler Reinhardt dropped Kunsman to third on lap 4. The top three remained unchanged until lap 13 when Nick Walton passed Kunsman for third. Bealer was on the move from his early race spin as he entered the top five by the halfway mark. Bealer steadily moved through the field passing Kunsman, Walton and Reinhardt to move into second with five laps to go. Hendershot led Bealer to the checkered flag followed by Reinhardt, Walton and Kunsman,
Kline, who has chased Kurtz over the first five events of the series, drew the pole for the final feature. At the drop of the green flag, Kline took the lead as Kurtz passed Damon Paul for second on the opening lap. Travis Bieber and Austin Silfees ran fourth and fifth. Bieber made an early exit from the feature moving Silfees to fourth. On the restart, Joe Toth and Rich Partite traded fifth position. Kline’s lead over Kurtz remained consistent over the final laps to record his first win. Kurtz finished second with Silfies passing Paul for third. Toth bested Partite for fifth.
Inglin started on the pole for the 20-lap Xcel Modified feature and immediately jumped to the front. Inglin began to build a lead over Tommy Kunsman, doing triple duty, and Hunter Diehl. Jason Dunkelberger and Travis Fichter dropped Diehl to fifth on lap four. The top five remained unchanged until lap 14. Dunkelberger passed Kunsman for second while Kevin VanValkenburg for fifth. At the checkered, Inglin led a fast closing Dunkelberger for the win with Kunsman, Fichter and VanValkenburg completing the top five.
