Bridgeport, NJ – The first of three nights of racing for the Danny Serrano Skyscraper Micro Sprint Spectacular is a matter of record with six drivers already transferred to the starting line-ups of Sunday’s main events.
Two groups of timed hot laps were run for both the Hyper Racing EVO Injection 600 Micro and the 270 Micro Sprints. The fast time from each session is locked into the starting line-ups for Sunday.
Tommy Kunsman does what he does best and for the second time in the history of the Skyscraper, Kunsman set fast time in both his 270 and 600 Micros, early starting positions in both divisions. Kunsman’s time with the 600 was 13.201 seconds around the Spirit quarter mile. Kunsman is the defending Skyscraper champion for the 600s. With the 270, Kunsman set the benchmark at 12.572 seconds.
Luke Thomas set quick time in the second group of 600s with a time just slightly off of Kunsman’s time. Thomas ran a lap of 13.244 second putting him and the Kenny Vincent No. 97 into the starting line-up on Sunday.
Ron Perchak, the defending Skyscraper 270 winner, set fast time in the second group of 270s, just slightly off of Kunsman’s mark. Perchak’s lap time was 12.580.
2020 feature winners lined up in both classes to compete for a seventh place start in the 2020 Skyscraper.
Colin White raced ahead of Eddie Strada and Damon Paul to capture the win in the Hyper Racing EVO Injection Winners race for the 600s. White was not happy with the times he turned in hot laps but had enough speed to capture the twenty lap victory. White, who started fourth in the main, raced into the lead following a complete restart and led every lap to the checkered flag.
Lee Reinhardt was the third and final leader in the 270 Winner’s Classic, putting him seventh on the grid for Sunday’s main event.
Pat Bealer ran away from the field for the first eleven laps before a mechanical issue sent the race leader to the pits. Alex Swift then led for three circuits before Reinhardt blasted into the lead. Reinhardt won the race and a 7th place start on Sunday.
The schedule for Saturday will be two sets of heat races for each division, the second set will see an inverted line-up. Passing points will determine the top ten to be transferred into the Skyscraper where they will draw for starting positions along with Friday night’s fast timers and feature winners.
The All Star Slingshots will also compete on Saturday with qualifying and a twenty lap feature for their Poker Series event.
Hot laps get underway at 5pm on Saturday.
