Bridgeport, NJ – Connor Gross did it all on the first night of Hyper Racing Speed Week at the Spirit Auto Center Speedway sponsored by TW Metals.
Gross started out by setting fast time for the eighty-two 600 competitors. Then he went from sixth to first in his qualifying race and topped the board as the high point man. That put him on the pole for the thirty-five lap main event and that was all Gross as he led from the green to the checkered to capture the win.
It wasn’t an easy win but a strong performance as Gross was challenged by the best in 600 Micro Sprints.
In the early going, it was Tim Buckwalter, the fast timer in Flight B, and Steven Snyder Jr. who battled for second and pressured Gross from the wave of the green. On lap eleven, Tommy Kunsman took over second followed by Snyder and Buckwalter and Briggs Danner.
Danner challenged Buckwalter on a lap fourteen restart. Buckwalter retired from the event with mechanical issues during a lap fifteen caution. On the restart, Grayson Springer joined the top five.
Kunsman claimed second and despite pressure from Snyder in the remaining laps, it was Gross, Kunsman, Snyder, Danner and Springer until ten laps to go when Springer took over fourth.
Gross was able to give himself a little breathing room in the final laps as he raced to the win over Kunsman, Snyder, Springer and Danner. Christian Bruno finished sixth followed by Billy Koch, Anthony Tramontana, Bubba Hughes and Dylan Kontra.
It was a great start to Speedweek for Connor Gross and a big victory for the engine package that is a product of Connor and his father, Dale.
Nick Skias jumped behind the wheel of the Charlie Palmucci No. 16P to pick up the win in the 270 Micro Sprint feature with a late race pass by seven time winner, Alex Swift. Pat Bealer appeared to have the field covered in the Chuck Palmucci No. 16c until expired with just three laps to go – a repeat of the season opener.
It was Skias for the win over Swift, Jonathan John, William Mohring and Jason Klinger.
Brexton Busch sailed to the win in the Junior Sprint Feature. After winning his heat race, Busch started from the outside pole and took the lead at the wave of the green and then proceeded to drive away from the field. Junior Sprints are another product from the drawing board of Mike Dicely and a nice field of cars was on hand for this event.
Brexton Busch took the win over Jase Smith, Weston Foster, Brayton Morris and Ashlynn Whittmer.
