Bridgeport, NJ – It is hard to derail a young driver who feels his first win is imminent. That was certainly true of Gary Bozowski as he sailed to his first win in the Hyper Racing EVO Injection 600 Micro Sprint feature at the Spirit Auto Center Speedway on Friday evening.
After a pair of runner-up finishes, defending 270 Micro Sprint Champion, Alex Swift raced to his first win of the season over Nick Skias. Amanda Angstadt picked up her second win of the season in the All Star Slingshots while Brayden Morrision picked up another win in the Junior Slingshot feature.
Gary Bozowski led every one of the twenty-five laps in the Hyper Racing EVO Injection 600 Micro Sprint feature on Cassidy Painting Night at Spirit. Just one week earlier, Bozowski charged to a runner-up finish behind Luke Thomas in the 600 feature – this week the roles were reversed as Thomas chased Bozowski around the quarter mile from lap three to the finish.
It was a good night for the Cobbs Mill Performance team as Bozowski’s team-mate, Steven Bracall, raced from the back of the field after a multi-car incident at the start of the feature to finish fifth at the checkered.
After about four years of trying, Bozowski was thrilled to earn his first win and put another “w” in the win column for RTS chassis. Thomas finished second followed by Pat Bealer, Matt Smith and Bracall. Chris Fenimore did his Cassidy Painting sponsor proud as he raced to a sixth place finish after qualifying through the consolation. Fenimore was towed from the track after a turn three pile-up in his qualifier. Jackson White finished seventh followed by 2021 Champion, Connor Gross, Anthony Tramontana and PJ Williams.
Dom Pomponi led the 270 Micro Sprint feature until a caution on lap three. Swift took the lead when the green flag waved and never looked back. The top five raced nose to tail for many laps with Swift taking the win over Skias, Joe Dopke, Tyler Grau and Trevor Waegel. Steve Burger, Charles Cobourne, Danny Wright, George Nardelli and Pomponi rounded out the top ten.
Amanda Angstadt stayed focused on the job at hand and out ran Ryan Davey to take her second win in a row in the All Star Slingshots. Davey had his best outing to date to finish second. Joe McCardel finished third in his first Spirit appearance. Matt Keifert and Michael Beckett rounded out the top five. Chase Bixler, Tomas Mowery, PJ Bozowski, Tim Franks and Scott Phillipp completed the top ten at the checkered.
Brayden Morrision picked up his third Junior Slingshot win over rookie, Cody Williamson.
There will be no racing at Spirit Auto Center Speedway this Friday as action moves to Sunday for the first Poker Series event of the season.
