Bridgeport, NJ – Steven Bracall, Alex Swift and Michael Beckett added an additional “w” to their 2021 win totals on Friday night at the Spirit Auto Center Speedway. It was Bracall’s second win of the season in the Hyper Racing Evo Injection 600 Micro Sprints, moving him just a few points closer to challenge Connor Gross for the 2021 Championship. It was Swift’s seventh 270 Micro Sprint win of the season, allowing Swift to add four more points to his lead over Nick Skias for the 2021 title. And while the All Star Slingshot title is virtually out of Michael Becket’s reach. a third win was added to the season total for the second year driver.
The feature for the 600 Micro Sprints got off to a rough start with several caution flags interrupting the close action on the track. Eddie Barber III led the first three times around the quarter mile with John Barnett challenging on lap four. After a side-by-side battle for the lead, Barnett grabbed the top spot all to himself on lap five with Bracall, Luke Thomas and Barber trailing the leader.
Bracall, who started ninth, raced into the lead on lap six with a very determined Thomas and Robert Pierce giving chase.
Thomas kept the pressure on the leader. especially in lapped traffic in the closing laps. With less than two laps to go, Thomas’s mount slowed on the backstretch with mechanical issues, ending Thomas’ bid for a win.
Bracall raced to his second win of the season in the Cobbs Mills No. 10b followed by Pierce who scored his best finish to date. Current point leader, Connor Gross raced to a third place finish after starting last in the line-up due to earlier mechanical issues. Brandon Pavel raced home in fourth with Barnett scoring a season best in fifth. Corey Anderson, Frank Holmes, PJ Williams, Barber and Chris Fenimore completed the top ten at the checkered flag.
Nick Skias drew the pole for the 270 Micro Sprint Feature but it was point leader, Alex Swift who led the way to the checkered flag at the end of twenty laps.
Skias grabbed the lead on the start in the Palmucci No. 16P with Lee and George Nardelli quickly moving into second and third. Swift raced from his tenth place start to third by lap five. Swift and Lee Nardelli raced side by side on lap nine with Swift moving into second at the halfway mark. Nardelli, Lee Reinhardt and George Nardelli rounded out the top five.
A lap eleven caution brought the field together for a double file restart, erasing any advantage that Skias had under green flag conditions. Swift raced into the lead at the wave of the green but Skias wasn’t going away quietly. Skias was all over the back bumper of the John Blanda No. 15.
Swift was able to put a few car lengths between himself and Skias in the final laps as he raced to his seventh Spirit victory in 2021. Skias finished second followed by Reihardt, Lee Nardelli and John Wagner. Tom Landwher finished sixth followed by Nick Walton, George Nardelli, Jimmy Wagner and Chuck Palmucci.
Michael Beckett raced to a dominating win in the All Star Slingshots. The second year driver earned his third win of the season.
Current point leader, Amanda Angstadt led the race for the first five laps as Beckett raced his way from his eighth place start to third by lap three. Beckett had the lead as he and Angstadt raced to the line to complete lap six.
A lap thirteen caution for debris erased Beckett’s advantage but the leader persevered and raced to the win over Angstadt. Ryan Harris finished third, pressuring Angstadt for second in the closing laps. Tim Franks finished fourth with Ryan Davey taking fifth.
Spirit Speedway 2021 track champions will be crowned this Friday with the 600 and 270 Micro Sprints and Slingshots present another tripleheader show.
