Five feature events topped i2M sponsored racing on the Spirit Auto Center quarter mile on Friday night with two drivers earning their first ever wins in Bridgeport action.
After being in the thick of the competition on several occasions this season, Ken Andreas was finally able to seal the deal and pick up the win in the 270 Micro Sprint feature event. Andreas took the lead at the wave of the green flag and then held off the challenges of first, Sam LaMothe and then reigning track champion, Tyler Reinhardt for the final thirteen laps to capture his first win on the Logan Township track. This is Andreas’ first full time season at Spirit. “We’d run good and then draw bad,” the new winner commented after the race. “We really nailed the set-up tonight.”
Reinhardt finished second with current point leader, Alex Swift in third. Rich Keller and Brittany Eriston crossed the finish line behind the race leaders to complete the top five.
After suffering through some mechanical issues in recent events, Matt Smith returned with a vengeance to capture his third win of the season in the wingless 600 Micro Sprint feature.
Kyle Spence led the first laps before Smith advanced from his ninth place start to take the lead. There was plenty of action throughout the twenty lap event as Billy Calvert, Rob Vivona, Nick Havens and Rich Keller traded positions back and forth before the checkered flag brought an end to the action. Vivona bested Spence to take second while Havens had his best run of the season to finish fourth. Keller rounded out the top five.
The Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) was on hand for a full night of 305 sprint car action on the 5/8th mile track in addition to a second feature event that was rained out during Pack the House Night. Bryant Davis led all twenty laps to capture his first ever feature win in 305 Sprint Car competition as he held off the challenges of Rick Stief to gain the win in the regular feature event. Davis and Stief are both graduates of the quarter mile track and were able to show off their talents in front of the regular Friday night crowd. Dave Brown, Eddie Wagner and Tim Tanner, Jr. rounded out the top five in this event.
Stief improved his performance by one postion to capture the held-over feature event – his second Bridgeport Speedway victory this season. Tanner led the way for the first six circuits before Stief took over on lap seven. Stief and Tanner raced to the checkerd flag with Austin Bishop taking third over Mark Bitner and Eddie Wagner.
Scott Miller returned to his winning ways when he captured his sixth Four Cylinder Enduro win of the season. Joe Garey, the previous winner, finished second with Jonathan John finishing third.
Action returns to the Spirit Auto Center Speedway this Friday at 8pm with 270 & 600 Micro Sprints and the Four Cylinder Enduro cars take to the track at 8pm.
