Bridgeport, NJ – The Hyper Racing/EVO Injection 600 Micro Sprints have produced eleven different winners on the Spirit Auto Center Speedway quarter mile. Kyle Spence joined a select group of drivers when he picked up his second win of the season in 600 Micro action at Spirit on Cassidy Painting night. Spence became just the third driver to collect a repeat win in this division this season and joins Tommy Kunsman and Steven Bracall who have both collected a pair of victories.
Billy Gray raced to his second win of the season in the Winged 270 Micro Sprints. In just five races this season, Gray has collected two wins and has finished no worse than third. Michael Beckett raced ahead of rookie All Star Slingshot competitor, PJ Bozowski to capture his fifth win of the season. Braydon Morrison outran Christian Buffalino for his ninth Spirit win of the season in the Junior Slingshot competition.
Spence drew the pole and then raced to his second flag-to-flag victory of the season behind the wheel of the Curt Matherly No. 89. Spence raced ahead of the battle for second between PJ Williams and Matt Smith for most of the twenty-five lap feature.
The 600 field was able to make use of multiple lanes on the Spirit quarter mile. Many drivers rated the track conditions as the best of the season. Spence started the feature by running the inside. Just before halfway, Spence changed his line to move up the track. He made a second change to find better grip just a little more to the outside.
No matter what line he ran, Spence had the Matherly No. 89 out in front. He quickly moved ahead on each of the restarts and was well ahead of the challenge for second.
Smith took over second late in the race. Gross, who had advanced from his ninth place starting position, pressured Smith in the closing laps and actually held the advantage but a caution flag negated his efforts.
The final caution came with just one lap to go. Smith held off Gross to finish second with Gross, Williams and Sam Lamothe rounding out the top five. This was Lamothe’s second top five finish since debuting his new Hyper chassis, Dave Orange powered No. 55 just one week earlier.
Gary Bozowski finished sixth followed by Chris Fenimore, Nick Sapp, Brendan Hires and Robert Pierce.
Past 270 Champion, Nick Skias drew the pole for the twenty lap feature event and led the field for the first six laps. Billy Gray pressured the leader and then took over the lead on lap seven. Defending champion, Alex Swift raced in third before his John Blanda No. 15 lost power just after halfway.
Lee Nardelli and Nick Walton battled for position throughout the race with Walton taking third at the finish. Dom Pomponi finished fourth with Nardelli rounding out the top five.
Jimmy Wagner, Trevor Waegel, Kyra Pierce, Charles Cobourne and Tommy Rinck rounded out the top ten.
Michael Beckett found his car and the track conditions to be a perfect match as he wheeled the Black Horse Diner No. 22 to the win in the All Start Slingshot feature.
PJ Bozowski had a great run to finish second.
After qualifying the Anewalt’s Landscape Contracting No. 55A to a qualifying spot in the heat race, Angstadt climbed into the No. 515 driven by Ryan Davey. Davey turned his mount over to Angstadt for the feature event after a blown clutch gasket in the No. 55A sidelined Angstadt from competition. Angstadt was able to wheel the No. 515 to a third place finish. Scott Phillipp finished fourth with Rachel Johnson completing the top five at the finish.
Brayden Morrison raced ahead of Christopher Bufflalino to capture his ninth Spirit Junior Slingshot feature win of the season.
It will be another division show this Friday night on the Spirit quarter mile as the Micro sprint 600s and 270s compete along with the All Star Slingshots and Junior Slingshots.
