Bridgeport, NJ – Kyle Spence opened the 2024 racing season at the Spirit Auto Center Speedway with a win and made his return to the Champion Brands Victory Lane with a second win on Friday night in the Hyper Racing 600s. Alex Swift pushed his win total to twelve as Swift & the Blanda No. 15 have dominated 270 action this season. PJ Bozowski was back in the groove as he claimed his fourth Speedway Entertainment All Star Slingshot win and Jack Jarvis did it again in the Junior Slingshot ranks.
Olivia Haworth and Kyle Spence led the field of 600s to the start with Spence grabbing the lead on lap one followed by Haworth and Chris Fenimore. PJ Williams quickly raced from eighth place start into second on a lap four restart. Fenimore, Anthony Tramontana and Haworth followed through lap five but Matt Smith was coming on the outside after starting back in tenth.
The field raced under green flag conditions for the remainder of the race with only Smith advancing a position in the remaining laps.
Spence raced to his second win of the season followed by Williams, current point leader, Anthony Tramontana, Smith who made the pass for fourth over Fenimore in the final laps. Haworth finished sixth followed by Ethan Simpson, Julian Rexrode, Gary Bozowski and Robert Pierce completed the top ten at the checkered.
Marshall LaBuda and Joe Dopke made up the first row of the 270 Micro Sprint feature line-up with Labuda moving ahead in turn three of the first lap. Jon West was an early race casualty in turn four to bring out the red. West was not injured. On the restart, Alex Swift raced with Joe Dopke for second and then raced into the lead on lap four.
Dopke hung with the leader for several laps but it wasn’t long before Swift was stretching his lead and running away from the field.
Dopke raced in second but slowed in the final laps and pulled out of the race. That put LaBuda back into second but Billy Gray had something to say about that. Gray took over second to cross the finish line behind Swift who scored win No. 12. LaBuda finished third with Andrew Locuson winning the battle for fourth over Luke Fogg.
Polesitter, Chris Laureigh had the early lead in the All Star Slingshots until PJ Bozowski raced into the lead on lap five. After a battle for second, Brandon Oakley took over the spot on lap eight.
There was quite a battle going on behind the leaders as Todd Martin, Ryan Davey and Jonathan Laureigh battled for position.
The win went to Bozowski over Oakley followed by Chris Laureigh, Brayden Morrison and Jonathan Laureigh. The Championship battle continues in this division between Oakley and Bozowski in the final races of the season.
Jack Jarvis made it win No. 11 as he raced to the victory in the Junior Slingshots. While two of the frontrunners raced each other, Jarvis moved into the lead on the first lap and never looked back.
Austin Walls raced to a second place finish followed by Hannah Kormann, David Morrison and Charlie Moore.
Fast and Furious Friday action returns this Friday for the first race in the month of September.
