SPIRIT SPEEDWAY IS READY FOR BIGGEST RACE OF THE SEASON – SKYSCRAPER 3

The first Skyscraper event was held at the Spirit Speedway in the fall of 2017.  Bridgeport’s Danny Serrano wanted to present a premier event for the 270 and 600 Micro Sprints and introduced the idea to track management at the start of the year.

From there, the event grew as Serrano traveled to area tracks to encourage drivers to enter this event.  And enter they did.  Last year’s race saw more than one hundred cars file into the pit area with more than sixty 600 Micro Sprints in addition to more than forty 270 Micro Sprints.

The entry list has been growing with the event coming this weekend – October 4-6.  Open practice gets underway at 7 pm on Friday.  Timed hot lap sessions will be conducted for both the 270 and 600 Micros with the fastest timer earning a spot in the redraw on Sunday.

Each division will compete in a main event Friday night with the seventh place starting position up for grabs for Sunday’s main events.  The 600 Micro Sprints will compete in the U6SA Shootout.  The 270s will compete in a Winner’s Classic sponsored by Atlantic Racing Engines.

Hot laps are scheduled for 7 pm with racing to follow immediately.

On Saturday, two sets of heat races will be run for both divisions.  The line-ups will be reversed for the second group of heat races.  A passing points system will be used to determine the top qualifiers who will then move to the redraw for Sunday’s main event.  Hot laps are scheduled for 5 pm with racing to follow immediately.

On Sunday, heats and consolation events will be run to determine the final starting positions.  The 600s will compete in a forty lap main event that pays $4,000 to the winner.  The 270s will race for thirty laps with the big prize of $3,000 waiting for the winner.  Both feature winners will receive a unique trophy developed by Andreas Precision Machine.  These trophies have become coveted prizes among micro sprint racers.  Hot laps are scheduled for 4 pm with racing to follow immediately.

Matt Smith and Jacob Hendershot have a perfect record for the first two Skyscraper events.  Smith has won both prior events in the 600s while Hendershot has picked up the win in the 270s during both past events.  They will certainly be the me to beat but a host of other drivers will be there to challenge them for the wins, representing tracks from throughout the Mideastern United States.

Serrano makes sure that no one goes home empty handed.  Even the non-qualifiers will receive product and/or gift cards for their participation.
