Bridgeport, NJ – Spirit Auto Center Speedway presented a special fast and furious Friday night – this one to honor Amy Barber, a former track worker who passed away after an extended illness two years ago.  Spirit Auto Center, Pro-Tek Roofing and David Cobb sponsored this special night of racing.

Amy came to Bridgeport to work and she did whatever was needed of her.  She worked in the tower, she worked on the safety crew, she drove the ambulance.   She and her husband, Ed, fielded a 600 Micro Sprint.  She was a mom, a grandmom (Mimi) and a friend to many.  She was known through the pit area and grandstands.
Her family continues to work at the track and have chosen a race night to honor her memory for the last two years.
Wayne Scott knew Amy Barber.  The Scott boys grew up at the race track.  When Wayne Scott raced to the win in the thirty lap Amy Barber Memorial Race on Friday night, he was well aware of the woman that was being honored.  “I’ve been looking forward to this race,” Scott related after his win.  “We’ve been coming here for several weeks and trying a few things.”  Obviously, the Scott’s found what they were looking for!
Geordan Marerro and Wayne Scott shared the front row of the feature line-up and led the field to the wave of the green flag.  Scott grabbed the lead and led the way for the first four laps until Tommy Kunsman raced by on lap five.  Scott raced in second followed by Marerro, Matt Smith and Chris Fenimore.
Kunsman led the way through several cautions and a red flag thrown when Rebecca LaMothe went end over end between turns one and two, escaping injury.  Just before halfway, a multi-car incident between turns one and two, blocked the track, necessitating another red flag to allow the track crew to work.  Kunsman was not involved in the incident but headed to the pits with mechanical issues at this juncture.   Wayne Scott led the field back to the green followed by Smith, Anthony Tramontana, Julius Rexrode and Kyle Spence.
Spence advanced to second on lap eighteen and became Scott’s challenger for the remaining distance.  Spence, the winner of the Spirit season opener, looked inside and outside but couldn’t find a way to grab the lead.  Scott led the way through several restarts, taking the checkered flag at the end of thirty laps.  Spence finished second followed by PJ Williams,  Dan Leaper and Jon Keller in the Barber No. 99B.  Josh Conover, Geordan Marerro, Korey Inglin, Sonny Tete and Steve Fleetwood rounded out the top ten.
DA’s Auto Body & Repair sponsored a six lap Cash Dash with the top two finishers in each heat race competing for the prize money.  Spence was the winner, takin the $300 winner’s share followed by Kunsman ($150) and Anthony Tramontana ($100).
Thanks to the many people who supported this event, many special awards and bonuses were offered.   Additional money was paid to the 600 feature finish offered by JYD Racing, Kristen & Corey Anderson, Casey & Dave Zubec, Ed Barber in memory of Amy Barber, Briana & Ed Olsen, Karen Edinger in memory of Danny Serrano, Bri & Josh Conover in memory of Pops Conover, Gray Motorsports, Tori Pavel Designs, Ralph Richards in memory of Marcia Richards and the Young Family.   Pink ribbon “Send it” stickers were made available to the field which entitled the bearer to additional money from DA’s Auto Body.   The stickers were featured on the entire starting line-up.  $200 for Prettiest Car sponsored by Tony Bozowski awarded to Dustin Tyler.  $200 for Hard Charger sponsored by DynoBar and Team 29 awarded to Josh Conover.  $200 for Hard Luck award sponsored by Susan & Eric Bland in memory of Amy Barber and Florence Cossaboon awarded to Chris Turner.

Nick Walton became only the second driver to win more than one feature event this season in the 270 Micro Sprint feature when he raced to is second win of the season.
Luke Fogg was the race leader on lap one before Billy Gray raced out in front on lap two.  Current point leader and ten time feature winner, Alex Swift raced most of the event with a tire going down after contact on lap three.  Gray led through halfway but then lost several positions and Walton took the lead.
Walton raced to the win over Kenny Andreas, Gray, Lee Nardelli and Anthony Tramontana who was subbing for driver, Joe Dopke.
The Speedway Entertainment Slingshots competed in their Speedweek events that saw Brett Bieber race to his second Spirit win of the season in the All Star Slingshots and Charliie Moore raced to his first win in the Junior Slingshots.
The Bieber family is all involved in racing and on Friday night, Brett’s mom made her contribution when she drew the pole for Brett for the start of the feature event.
Brett took the lead on the start and never looked back, leaving the race for second up to the competition.  PJ Bozowski held down second for most of the feature until challenged by Brandon Oakley on lap twenty.  Oakley took the position even though Bozowski rallied to challenge him for the spot.  Jonathan Laureigh took over third in the final laps.  Bozowski finished fourth with Christopher Laureigh finishing fifth.
Charlie Moore has had nothing but bad luck during his Rookie season.  That ended on Friday night when Moore drove to his first feature win in the Junior Slingshots, leading every lap to record the win.  Moore is a third generation racer whose first win fell on the same date as his dad’s win four years ago.
Carter Mullins was breathing down Moore’s neck but Moore never waivered, hitting his marks an the way to the win.  Mullins finished second over point leader, Jack Jarvis, Daivd Morrison and Aubrey Romig who finished fifth in a ride borrowed from Riley Maguire.  That was a huge contribution on Maguire’s part as Romig went on to claim the Speedweek Championship for the Junior Slingshots.
